Sound system help for car?

I get lost when I am looking at subs and amps. I have an 08 ford edge. I need an affordable and nothing too crazy system. But I want to add some subs and an amp because the factory sound system is crap. The loudness isn't the problem but there isn't any punch in the music like my home theater. What works extremely well the does not have the extreme price?
