Removing caliper from a 2004 astro van?

while doing so i removed 2 bolts that were not the usual ones at the ends of the caliper to remove it from the bracket.then i replaced the pads and reassembled. is this right? I also tried to remove the outside bolts on the caliper but they just kept spinning. Is that right?
