Pc, sony amp, b&w volume problems?

i have my pc linked to a sony Amp and a pair of b&w speakers, to get the best sound out of them i have to press the loudness button on the amp. the problem is the volume fluctuates slightly but noticeably along with the bass which is more noticeable with volume and can cause distortion. is this a sound card issue or the amp, thanks
